Who Will Be The King of England After Queen Elizabeth II? New Facts Are Quite Shocking

Wills next in line? More than half of Britain wants Prince William to succeed the Queen

Prince William is the Royal family member that most British members of the public would like to succeed the Queen as monarch, a new survey claims.

The 34-year-old is even more popular than heir to the throne Prince Charles, it has been claimed.

A survey published today by Opinium Research’s ‘Monarchy Tracker’ also shows that just one in five British people want the country to become a republic giving a boost to the house of Windsor.

Much of the monarchy’s popularity appears to be tied to the public approval for the Queen.

One thing we can probably guarantee is that the public fascination with the Royal Family will continue as we anticipate births, engagements and further family drama

While 70 per cent of the population also think that Britain is perceived more positively abroad because of the monarchy.

However, those aged over 55 are significantly more likely to support the current royal family than those under 35.

Questions regarding the Queen’s legacy have also yielded interesting results for those considering the future.

The Queen celebrated her 90th birthday this year and shows no signs of stepping down.

However 52 per cent of the public would prefer to see her grandson Prince William to sit on the throne next, rather than Prince Charles – who polled at just 27 per cent.

James Endersby, Managing Director of Opinium Research said: “The monarchy clearly retains the support of the British public, and our tracker indicates that the institution is as popular now as it ever was.

“However, young people are not as invested as the older generation and this does raise questions about the future of the monarchy after the Queen – will the institution survive without one of history’s most respected sovereigns?

“One thing we can probably guarantee is that the public fascination with the Royal Family will continue as we anticipate births, engagements and further family drama, all of which are likely to dominate the year’s headlines.

“As we saw this week with the Golden Globe win for lavish Netflix production ‘The Crown’, even outside of the news many of us can’t get enough of the Windsors.

“That appetite for more means we’re unlikely to see the back of the British monarchy anytime soon.”

One in five UK adults Prince Harry get engaged this year, perhaps as a result of his headline-grabbing relationship with American actress Meghan Markle.

While one in 10 also believe we will see the family grow even further, predicting another baby for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The most recent tracker was through an online survey of 2003 GB adults from 29 December 2016 to 03 January 2017.
