Princess Eugenie is to marry her nightclub manager boyfriend Jack Brooksbank.
The Duke and Duchess of York’s 26-yearold daughter plans to get engaged “by the end of the year” and will marry in 2017, according to friends who say she is “blissfully happy”.
Prince Andrew and the Duchess of York have both been told of the plans and are said to be “overjoyed” their youngest daughter has found “the one”.
A family friend said: “They have both grown to love Jack and think he is perfect for her. He is a very down-to-earth genuine guy and they have got to know him well over the past six years. As far as they are concerned if Eugenie is happy then so are they.”
News of the royal wedding comes just a week after it was revealed Eugenie’s older sister Princess Beatrice has split from her long-term boyfriend Dave Clark.
Everyone likes him and he will make a wonderful husband and hopefully, in time, dad
A close family friend said: “Everyone was a bit down about Beatrice and Dave ending it after 10 years but it’s fantastic news about Eugenie and her sister is overjoyed for her.
The Queen has met Jack and is ‘thrilled’ that Eugenie has met such a “thoroughly nice young man”.
The couple are to move into their first home at Kensington Palace where William and Kate and Harry will be close neighbours.
We can reveal that Eugenie and Jack, 29, will be living in Ivy Cottage, a three-bedroom home right next door to cousin Harry’s house Nottingham Cottage.
Eugenie will move in by Christmas and Jack will join her officially after the wedding.
A Kensington Palace insider said: “It’s a cosy cottage and an ideal first home. It was once lived in by the family of a soldier injured in the First World War and has also been used by staff. It needs some work and so it’s going to take some weeks to do up.
“Harry is right next door so Eugenie will always be able to pop round and get some sugar. But seriously, they get on really well and they will both love being so close.”
Harry has always been fond of Eugenie, who introduced him to his last girlfriend Cressida Bonas.
A pal said: “Eugenie and Cressie are still great mates so doubtless Harry will be bumping into his ex when she comes round.”
When the cottage is ready, Eugenie will move out of the apartment she shares with 28-year-old Beatrice at St James’s Palace.
The friend added: “She wants her own space and obviously wants to plan ahead for married life.”
One Palace source said: “The Queen is delighted and thinks it’s wonderful that there will be a family wedding in the year when she and Prince Philip celebrate their 70th anniversary!
“Everyone is looking forward to the great day.” Eugenie, who is eighth in line to the throne, does not have to formally ask the Queen’s permission to marry, but an insider said: “Of course out of respect and courtesy she will consult her before announcing anything.”
Eugenie and Jack started dating six years ago after they were introduced by friends in the Swiss ski resort of Verbier.
One friend said: “There was an immediate attraction and they have been together ever since.
“Eugenie was studying at Newcastle university when they met and Jack was working as a waiter in London, but they made the relationship work.
“She is very uncomplicated. She’s a doer, a worker, as is Jack. They are very suited. Jack’s always worked hard. He chose not to go to university so that he could get on the career ladder and Eugenie loved that.
“She didn’t care at all that he was a waiter. She might be a Princess but she comes with few airs and graces.”
Friends say Jack “played a blinder” in 2013 when Eugenie wanted to go and work for art auctioneers Paddle8 in New York.
The friend said: “She was a little scared because she didn’t want to leave him behind, but he encouraged her and said he would always be waiting for her in London.
“He was supportive and didn’t put her under any pressure. Of course she missed him terribly but the experience was great. She was however glad when she got offered a good job back in London and could be with him again.”
Interviewed while she was working in America, Jack said: “We spend a lot of time on Skype. It’s great. We are still very much together.”
Eugenie returned to England after being headhunted by fashionable art gallery Hauser and Wirth where she is now based in their Savile Row branch as an associate director.
Jack meanwhile was steadily working his way up, taking a job at Chelsea’s Admiral Codrington pub before being poached by Piers Adam to the nearby Markham Inn.
There he got to know regular Prince Harry and his friend Guy Pelly, who lured Jack to run the trendy Mahiki nightclub where Jack worked 12 hour days.
He said : “I don’t get much time to go out. After work I head home. People think we party a lot but for me it’s a case of going back to watch a DVD.”
Whether joining the royal family will cause problems with his ambitions remains to be seen.
He said in 2013: “I want to create a chain of pubs. It has been my dream since I was 18.
“I have fond memories of Sunday roasts in pubs with log fires and it’s something I want to recreate.”
Educated at top private school Stowe – fees £11,000 a term – Jack has told his father George, a chartered accountant, and mother Nicola of his future plans and they are said to be “overjoyed”.
The family owns a French holiday home in Bordeaux, as well as a property in London.
According to one report Jack celebrated his 21st birthday – before he met Eugenie – dancing with a naked stripper, but otherwise there appear to be no scandals in his past.
A friend said: “He has always worked hard and wanted to get on. Eugenie’s parents love him and he is very close to them, spending summer holidays with them and he celebrated his 27th birthday in an Italian restaurant with Eugenie, her sister and mother.
“Sarah has treated him as a son-inlaw for some time and they are very pleased for Eugenie. Jack has no scheming or devious side to him.
“Everyone likes him and he will make a wonderful husband and hopefully, in time, dad.”
At artist Tracey Emin’s 51st birthday party Eugenie and Jack had their future read.
Eugenie was told: “Jack is the one for you because he is so laid back and nice-natured.”
Friends say Eugenie was devastated by her parents’ divorce when she was six and was so relieved when Andy and Sarah moved back in with each other as “best friends”.
A friend said: “She hates any mention of divorces and loves having a stable family. Jack is her rock and they are looking forward to a long and happy life together.
“She just hopes Beatrice also finds the right guy in time as well.”
