Pilot pal of Prince William buys pay-and-display ticket for helicopter – after landing in car park on rescue mission
High flyer Gavin Blake, who works with the East Anglian Air Ambulance along with the Duke of Cambridge, had flown to Norwich to help a stabbing victim.

The ‘copter landed in a city centre car park, and Gavin hopped out, paid for a ticket and popped in on the windscreen.

After posting pictures of the aircraft on Twitter he said: “You can’t say we don’t pay our way at East Anglian Air Ambulance.”

Cllr James Wright, who spotted the ticket being bought, said: “I’d sort of followed the air ambulance circling to land.

“I’d seen it land in the car park and I just happened to notice the pilot go across the car park and purchase a pay and display ticket.

“The paramedics were off doing their thing and it was a moment of down time for the pilot in what is an extremely stressful job.

“We all look for ways we can find some fun.”

A spokesman for the East Anglian Air Ambulance Service said that the flyer was just having a bit of “light-hearted fun” and they would not usually need to pay to park.

He said: “The crews get tasked to life threatening accidents all the time. We think it’s good to have a balanced approach to life.

“It was just him having a joke.”

An injured teenager, who was stabbed close to a Co-op store, was taken to hospital with a leg and back injury.

The air ambulance was not required and he remains in hospital in a stable condition.

It was confirmed that Duke of Cambridge was not involved the mission.
