Ed Sheeran squirmed when questioned about the night Princess Beatrice sliced his face open with a sword and explained he’s not allowed to speak about it.
In November, The Sun revealed that in a party prank gone wrong, the princess accidentally cut Sheeran’s cheek below his eye as she tried to knight James Blunt — leaving the singer having to go to hospital to get stitches.
On Friday morning, as Sheeran told BBC Radio 1 that he’d been hanging out with the “Game of Thrones” cast, co-host Chris Stark joked that that’s where he’d have thought “the incident with the sword” would have happened.
However, Sheeran suddenly became very cagey.
“Yeah … there’s … I don’t know if I can talk about that, you know,” he said awkwardly.
To which host Scott Mills asked: “What the sword?” as the singer, responded, “Yeah …”
“You have mentioned it, haven’t you?” asked Mills.
“Not fully, no. I have mentioned the cut, but … ” replied Sheeran, trailing off before he could mention the princess.
“Oh I can see it now,” said Mills, referring to the scar on his cheek.
Feeling more comfortable steering the subject away from Princess Beatrice, Sheeran asked, “Do you like it? I think it’s quite rugged.”
Trying to clarify whether or not there was a royal involved, Mills continued, “But there may have been a princess involved, that’s all you said. No you didn’t even say that, just that there was a scar and everyone’s jumping to conclusions.”
“Yeah…” said Sheeran, before taking a swipe at his pal James Blunt.
“I’ve been telling people it was James Blunt trying to get his career back. He actually told me to say that! I’m not being mean.”
It’s hardly surprising that Sheeran can’t talk about the incident, as Beatrice was apparently “inconsolable” at injuring him, as she said “arise Sir James” and cut Sheeran.
One source said, “He could have been blinded.”
Another added, “Everyone was totally shocked and apparently Beatrice was very upset. But Ed was the perfect gentleman and told her it was just an accident. However, it became apparent that the wound needed treatment so Ed was taken to hospital. He had to have stitches put in.”
